New Years

View From Our Window on New Years Eve

People save all year long to buy fireworks. There is no official display. This goes on for hours.

New Years Day

We gathered again on New Years Day for dinner and games.

Our first Snowstorm

Now the Day is Over

Christmas Day Jena 2009

The Elders and Sisters brought their gifts to put "under" our "tree".

We read Christmas scriptures and sang carols...in German of course. Kenneth, an investigator from Africa, enjoyed the day with us.

Elder Watkins passed out the gifts.

The Sisters made a Mail Order Catalog for Elder Ashley to choose a bride.

Sister Monson enjoys a book made by her mother with movie quotes and trivia. Sister Gill was just happy to get Band-Aids.

The request for Christmas Dinner was Mexican Food. We had enchiladas, tacos, homemade salsa and chips . After dinner Sister Watts relaxed.

Christmas Eve

The Jena Sisters and Elders were invited to spend December 24th with our Branch President and Family. Christmas in Germany is celebrated three days beginning on the 24th. We were able to enjoy a traditional Weihnachts Celebration.

At 3:00 we sat down at this lovely table and enjoyed tea, "coffee", hot chocolate and a traditional holiday fruit punch with Stollen, Lebkuchen, chocolate and other assorted German sweets.

The table was put away and we sang Christmas Carols.....in German of course.

While we were singing, through the snow and in the back door, the Weihnachtsmann arrived carrying a huge sack of gifts.

The children's joy was the highlight of the evening.

The Weihnachtsmann gave each one a gift only after they performed . Friedrich recited a poem

A song from Elder Watkins

A melody from the President.

Elder Ashley performs

We sang, "Home on the Range", for our gifts.

Friedrich got most of the gifts and it was great fun watching him.

At this time the table was again put up and filled with the Evening Meal consisting of cheese, meats, special breads, salads, other drinks and a beautiful Bisee-Torte ( a very heavenly dessert) Did we mention that the Germans love candles....the more the better.

Daniela was a wonderful hostess. It was a very memorable evening.
